External DVD writer

Hi everyone,
Simple request for advice, downloaded Solid AVI/DIVX to DVD Burner the other day and went through the process converting an AVI video clip, about 43 mins long.
Encoding worked a treat and was done in a little over an hour, but then it dawned on me....I actually do not have a DVD-writing drive installed

I can burn CD's, play DVD's but not burn any.
Don't want to screw around with the desktop replacing the internal one with another.
So I wanted to get me an external DVD writer to connect via USB. Can anybody recommend one compatible with Solid AVI/DIVX to DVD Burner at a reasonable price?
I'm in the UK, by the way, so they should be available here, of course.

Any advice very much appreciated, thanks in advance!

I'll ask my son.
He has an external DVD writer "Samsung 16 speed" Model number SE-W164C and is using Solid AVI/DIVX to DVD Burner.
However the result of this question will only be available on Monday afternoon (Belgium time)

You can always keep the files on your hard drive (optional create an ISO file), and write the DVD with your own recording software.

Thanks, Willy,
that would be great, let me know what your son says.

Don't think I can write DVD's with the software I have, when the file finished encoding I got the message from imgburn:

"Device not ready, medium not present", which usually means a DVD-writing device could not be found.

The external DVD writer "Samsung 16 speed" Model number SE-W164C is recognized by Solid AVI/DIVX to DVD Burner. A remittable DVD has been successfully written by Solid AVI/DIVX to DVD Burner.
This DVD-writer was reasonably priced a year ago.

Happy hunting,

Willy

Thanks Willy!

I've been looking around, but nobody seems to sell this one anymore, at least not here in the UK.
Maybe it's been replaced with a follow-up in the meantime, so I may go with a later Samsung, if yours works with Solid AVI/DIVX to DVD Burner, others should too.

Well, I keep looking for a bit.

I'm always open for other suggestions, of course.

Thanks!
